Inheritance, wills, or legitimacy issues


Three common themes, often overlapping, in Victorian novels are inheritance, wills, and legitimacy issues. In Margaret Oliphant's stories these issues concern not only money but the characters' sense of self - what the revelations, good or bad, tell them about whether they were loved, and how they are viewed by others, and especially how they now view themselves.
